CBRM's Taste of Winter aims to pack fun and activity into the winter months. Join us for a snowshoe, a movie, a song, or one of over 40 activities taking place through January, February, and March throughout the CBRM.

Taste of Winter Outdoor Rink

IMG 0432Thank you for your support of the Taste of Winter Outdoor Rink. We have been excited to watch hundreds of you take to the ice with your friends and families for the last six weeks. In order to evaluate this pilot project, we are asking anyone who used the rink click here and participate in the short survey. This will allow us to properly take your feedback into account as we move forward.

NS Heritage Day

IMG 9557 croppedNova Scotia Heritage Day 2018 honours Mona Louise Parsons, a Middleton NS native and member of the World War II Dutch resistance who was the only Canadian woman imprisoned by the Germans.

Spend Nova Scotia Heritage Day weekend with us as we help you have fun and come together. Taste of Winter: Movie Night comes to Undercurrent in Glace Bay at 6:30pm on Saturday, February 17th. On Monday, February 19th, join us for free skates at the Sydney Mines Rink at 10am and the Dominion Rink at 12:30pm, or hit the ice with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Centre 200 following their 1st annual Skills Challenge at 2pm. Finish off your day on the lanes with a free bowl at the Town Lanes in Glace Bay at 3pm.

With active living, indoor and outdoor fun, and some magical events, the young and the young at heart will have many options with which to occupy their time. William Prince & Digging Roots

William Prince Photo 2GalleryWilliam Prince is storytelling singer-songwriter from Peguis First Nation who sidesteps cliches to provoke thought and facilitate discovery. His baritone vocals pay tribute to his late father and his genuine delivery acknowledges the hundreds of hours he’s spent on stage. 2017 has been good to William; he's been called "Canada's next big songwriter", he's won the 2017 Juno for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, and he's spent the summer performing at a dozen or more folk festivals all across Canada inclduing the CBC Music Festival.

Digging Roots is a Juno Award winning rock and blues group built around husband and wife duo Raven Kanetakta and ShoShona Kish. The pair has built their sound on a unique musical marriage of unvarnished truth and unconditional love; opening fire on hate, oppression, and violence. Their newest song, AK-47, is about peace and courage and the idea that its time to change the whole paradigm. Stop the violence, against each other, ourselves, against the land. There’s an Anishinaabe word in the chant at the end of the song that distills it all:'Nizoogide’e'. It means “My heart is a stronghold.'

Taste of Winter is happy to present William Prince and Digging Roots together on Friday, March 9th at the Sarah Denny Cultural Centre in Eskasoni. Free admission, 6pm.
