During the 2018 Trashformer Program, the Trashformers have been asked to track and compile data on the following information this summer:

 

• Number of garbage bags filled with litter and debris.
• The weight of these materials removed from our streets and public areas.

 

The Trashformers will also be tracking common litter items they pick up. The common items which will be tracked include:

 

Refundables (glass, plastic bottles & cans)
Fast food packaging
Hot drink cups
Cold drink cups
Cigarette packages
Cigarette Butts
Sharps (needles)

Week 1 Trashformer Program Update:   Monday, May 28, 2018  to Friday, June 1, 2018

 

83 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 83 garbage bags they filled was 460 kg or 0.46 tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

103        Refundable beverage containers

550        Fast food wrappers

905        Hot drink cups

220        Cold drink cups

405        Cigarette packages

890        Cigarette butts

    8        Sharps (needles)

 

Some of the uncommon items the Trashformers removed from their cleanup areas during the week of May 28 and June 1, 2018 included:

Week 2 of the Trashformer Program:   Monday, June 4, 2018 to Friday, June 8, 2018

 

218  garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management
Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 218 garbage bags they filled was 900kg or        0.90  tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

1,050            Fast food wrappers

1,200            Hot drink cups

510               Cold drink cups

925               Cigarette packages

930               Cigarette butts

 

87                 Sharps (needles)

 

 

Some of the uncommon items the Trashformers removed from their cleanup area's during the Week of June 4 – June 8, 2018 included:

Week 3 of the Trashformer Program:    Monday, June 11, 2018 to Friday, June 15, 2018

 

224 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management
Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 224 garbage bags they filled was 1,030 kg or 1.30 tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

1,450            Hot drink cups

545               Cold drink cups

730               Cigarette packages

143 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management
Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 143 garbage bags they filled was 630 kg or 0.63
tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:

Week 5 of the Trashformer Program: Monday, June 25, 2018 to Friday, June 29, 2018

 

130 garbage bags were filled with litter and debris and disposed of at the Waste Management
Facility by the Trashformers.

 

The total weight of the contents contained in the 130 garbage bags they filled was 620 kg or 0.62
tonnes.

 

The Trashformers picked up:
