Old, unwanted, damaged or broken mobile devices and accessories are not accepted curbside for collection.  These devices are also not accepted for disposal at CBRM's Waste Management Facility.

Cell Phone Program logo enRecycle My Cell is Canada’s national recycling program for mobile devices and accessories. This is a free program available to consumers    across Canada. This program provides residents with an easy free convenient way to recycle old, unwanted mobile devices and accessories when they no longer have a use for them. Whether you are upgrading your current phone or just came across old devices placed in a junk drawer, a small effort on your part to recycle it properly can make a huge difference to the environment.

 

Who is Recycle My Cell?

Recycle My Cell is a national industry initiative led by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) along with its members (wireless manufacturers and service providers) to raise awareness about mobile device recycling. The CWTA is the authority on wireless issues, developments and trends in Canada. For more information please visit www.cwta.ca/

 

The Recycle My Cell Program will accept all used, unwanted or discarded mobile devices which connect to a cellular or paging network including:
Cell phones
Smart phones
Pagers
Wireless PDA's
External air cards
Cell phone batteries
Headsets
Chargers
Other cell phone accessories

The program will accept any mobile device regardless of brand, model, age or condition of the device you wish to dispose of.

 

Recycling a mobile device: Important Reminders

  • Before taking a mobile device to a drop-off location or returning by mail, for recycling please make sure:
  • The account information for the device has been fully paid and service has been deactivated.
  • The SIM card is removed if there is one.
  • Your device has been cleared of all personal information. Refer below for instructions on how to wipe your device.
  • Remove all personal information from your devices including text messages, contacts, personal files, and pictures.

 

Where can I drop off mobile devices and accessories for recycling?

To determine the nearest drop off location, visit www.recyclemycell.ca/drop-off-locations/  If there are no drop off locations in your area, you can mail your mobile device using a pre-paid shipping label, available at www.recyclemycell.ca/labels/  You can also now return your old mobil devices and accessories to an EPRA Nova Scotia Drop-off Center near you.  Visit www.recycleMYelectronics.ca/ns for the nearest drop-off centre in your local area.

 

Is there a cost to recycle my Mobile Device?

There is NO FEE or charge to consumers for recycling their wireless devices and accessories.

 

Does my Mobile Device still need to work in order to participate in this program?

Both working and non-working mobile devices are accepted in this program. Non-working devices contain the same reusable materials as working phones and should be disposed of in the same way as your working devices.
