Clothing and Textiles

 

Old or unwanted clothing or textiles in any condition, you no longer want or need, do not have to be thrown in the garbage. Consider giving away unwanted clothing or textiles to friends, family or neighbours or consider donating these items to a local charity of your choice or Goodwill. Consider REUSE options for your clothing and textiles.  Remember,  used clothing and textiles can be recycled across Nova Scotia.

 

Used Clothing and Textile that can be donated

All clothing (including foot wear) and other fabric items can be donated, as long as they are dry. Textiles that contain rips, tear, holes, missing buttons or missing snaps are all acceptable items that can be donated. Even out of style or outdated clothing can be donated. Clothing that contains holes or tears, are stained or dirty or just plain ugly are wanted and accepted in this program. The program will decide if it can be used again or not. You can even donate single socks, shoes, sandals, mitts, or gloves.

Please remember to think Reuse first, before placing unwanted or used clothing and textiles in the Garbage.  DONATE all your unwanted items.

Some Interesting Statistics

  • Approximately 11% of waste being sent to landfill for disposal represents used clothing and textile waste.
  • Approximately 7,000 tonnes of used clothing and textiles are recycled annually however, there is still approximatley 30,000 tonnes of textiles across Nova Scotia still getting disposed of in landfills.
