Call for Applications for Public Appointments to Committees
Make a difference in the CBRM! The CBRM is seeking applications from volunteer citizens to fill vacancies on the following committees:
- Audit Committee - two citizens
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - up to ten citizens
- Accessibility Advisory - up to eight citizens
- Heritage Advisory - up to seven citizens
- Police Commission - three citizens
- Library Board - two citizens

Deadline for applications is February 3rd, 2025.
Information on each committee is outlined below (click on the box):
Audit Committee
Number of Citizens: 2
Requirements and criteria for citizen appointees to the audit committee:
- Satisfactory police check (paid for by the Municipality)
- Be independent as defined in the Audit Committee Policy
- Be a resident of the CBRM
- Be financially literate (the ability to read and understand basic financial statements)
- Have an aptitude for complex organizational effectiveness and governance
- Have a general understading of the Municipality's major economic, operating, and financial risks
- Have a broad awareness of the interrelationship of the Municipality's operations and its financial
- Have an understanding of the difference between the oversight function of the Committee and the decision-making function of management
- Be willing to challenge management when necessary
- Preferably a member of a professional accounting association

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 3 Year Term
Number of Citzens: up to 10
The CBRM Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee will provide to Council recommendations, advice, and information on matters pertainng to diversity, equity and inclusion including matters relating to anti-racism, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other intersections of diversity within the CBRM.

Heritage Advisory
Number of Citizens: minimum 3 and maximum 7
Citizen should be members of local historical societies or individuals who have in the opion of the Council otherwise demonstrated active concern for the preservation of buildings. Committee members appointed perform duties and exercise powers as outlined in the CBRM Heritage Property Bylaw and the Heritage Property Act.

Police Commission
Number of Citizens: 3
Citizens should demonstrate a knowledge of community issues, a good character, and have the skills and abilities to make the commitment of time and effort required to carry out board responsibilities (Section 77(1) Nova Scotia Police Act Regulations). Successful applicants must also consent to a criminal record background check as per Section 77(2) of the NS Police Act Regulations.

Cape Breton Regional Library Board
Number of Citizens: 2
The Cape Breton Regional Library Board is comprised of members from CBRM, Victoria County, and the Province of Nova Scotia.
