CBMIC & CBRM Recreation Present 'Discovery Stage'

23 March 2015

SYDNEY, NS - A concert event will be held in April to showcase emerging local musical talent. The Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative (CBMIC - pronounced CB mike) and Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Recreation today launched the 'Discovery Stage', a concert event set for Friday, April 17th, at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay.

The event will present some of the best emerging musical talent based in the CBRM, providing a platform for the artists to increase their local profile with staff from CBRM Recreation, CBMIC, and local community organizations in attendance.

The event will consist of a reception in the studio space at 6pm with complimentary snacks, followed by performances in the theatre beginning at 7pm. Artists performing at the event include fiddler Gillian Head, 2014 CBC Searchlight national finalist Jofo, folk/bluegrass group Pretty Archie, ECMA Aboriginal Recording nominees Black and Grey, country troubadours Jordan Musycsyn Band, and young folk rock group Blair Lucas and the Apple Corps.

"Many of these artists have toured regionally or nationally but are underrepresented in our own community," says CBRM Recreation Program Coordinator Joe Costello. "Cape Breton has always been a leader in developing its Celtic artists; we can be a leader in developing a culture of support for our local emerging artists of all styles. It will be these artists who will be leading our region to future Music Nova Scotia Awards, East Coast Music Awards, and maybe even the Junos."

Tickets are $10 (service fees included) and will go on sale Monday, March 23, at the Savoy Theatre box office (902 842-1577) and online at tickets.capebreton.ca.
