CBRM Council announces Interim Chief Administrative Officer

SYDNEY, NS - Marie Walsh, CBRM's Director of Finance, will serve as Interim Chief Administrative Officer on news of the upcoming retirement of long-time CAO Jerry Ryan.

Mayor Cecil Clarke made the announcement at the end of today's council meeting.

 

"Marie's leadership as Interim CAO will guide us as we move forward with the budget process and the implementation of the Shaping our Future plan for our region," said Clarke. "I'm looking forward to continued steady leadership as we begin to plan ahead."

Walsh says she is thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to the challenges the role presents.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to take on this role and happy to have had the experience of working with Jerry Ryan over the past six years," said Walsh. "His guidance and support will continue as I take on this new challenge and responsibility."

Clarke noted that Ryan will continue to advise during the transition period and thanked him for his years of service to CBRM.

"Jerry Ryan has had a long and distinguished career as the top executive in the Martimes' third largest municipality," said Clarke. "I thank him and look forward to his continued advice and expertise."

Ryan officially retires in September 2013, but will move to an advisory role as of January 1st, 2013. He has been the CAO of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality since September of 1994.
