CBRM Mayor and Council Swearing-In Ceremony livestream

November 3, 2020

SYDNEY, NS – Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s new Mayor and Council will be sworn-in on Thursday, November 5 at 6:00 p.m.

The ceremony will be held at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion in Sydney and livestreamed on CBRM’s YouTube channel. The YouTube channel is at www.youtube.com/CapeBretonRegionalMunicipality/live

The ceremony is not open to the public or media due to COVID-19 public health restrictions.

"The swearing-in of a new Council is a moment to celebrate and prepare for the work ahead of us.  While COVID-19 has made our ability to gather a challenge,  we have found a way to mark this special occasion while respecting the restrictions in place that keep our communities safe,” said Mayor-Elect Amanda McDougall.  "I look forward to the ceremony and hope that the pubic are able to join us virtually as we embark on this new term of the CBRM Mayor and Council."

CBRM’s Chief Administrative Officer Marie Walsh will serve as emcee of the event. She says the Swearing-In Ceremony is traditionally a large public event, but to ensure the safety of all involved, a livestreamed ceremony will take place.

“We recognize this is a special day for many and we hope the livestream will be shared to a wide audience,” she said.

The video link will be posted on CBRM’s website after the event ends for viewers who are unable to watch it live.

Mayor, Council and senior staff will participate in orientation sessions on November 9 and 10.

The date for the first meeting of the new council will be set in the near future.
