CBRM Youth Council to resume on October 17

SYDNEY, NS – The CBRM Youth Council is holding its first meeting of the school year. Youth aged 14-18 who are interested in making a positive impact in the community are encouraged to attend the first meeting and join the Council.T

he CBRM Youth Council challenges young citizens to develop ideas and play a role in shaping the future of the CBRM. It also provides opportunities for youth to embrace their leadership and decision-making skills, while engaging with peers and community members.

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 4:30 pm in the Second Floor Boardroom at City Hall, located at 320 Esplanade, Sydney.

Some highlights and accomplishments of the previous youth council included supporting youth in the community by hosting social events, funding activities like a floor hockey league in Glace Bay, supporting organizations such as the Whitney Pier Youth Club, Undercurrent Youth Centre, Jumpstart and Lifeline Syria as well as hosting Nobel Prize winner Art McDonald for a meet and greet, where several young people had the opportunity to meet with one of science’s top achievers.

The Youth Council will meet through the months of October to May and will break for the summer.
