Construction sites and solid waste facilities in operation

SYDNEY, NS -  Cape Breton Regional Municipality is announcing roadwork operation locations and the re-opening of the solid waste facility in Sydney.  

Roadwork will begin, Monday April 27, on the following streets in Sydney: 

- Christopher Cres. from Cottage Rd. heading west to civic #83

- Webster St. from Victoria Rd. to Bay St. 

Roadwork will also begin on Monday, April 27, on the following streets in New Waterford:  

- Warren Ave., New Waterford from Gibbon St. to the railroad tracks

- Brook Ave, New Waterford, from Bay Ave to Irish Brook Rd.  

Traffic control will be in place throughout the duration of these projects.

COVID-19 protocols must be respected on all construction sites.

Residents are asked to not approach the workers and follow all social distance guidelines. 

Solid Waste facility re-opening on Tuesday, April 28, the Waste Management Facility located on SPAR Road in Sydney will re-open to the public and resume the regular operating hours of Tuesday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  

In an effort to protect our solid waste staff and the public from the Covid-19 virus, CBRM requires that the public continue to practice proper social distancing of 2 metres and not approach staff while on site.  

Visitors can expect delays as there will be a limited number of vehicles permitted on site at one time.

To reduce lineups, the Solid Waste department encourages those who can safely store materials until operations return to normal, please continue to do so. The number of garbage bags permitted curbside per week will return to a five bag limit. Residents can place two dark bags in the five bag limit. 

CBRM’s Heavy Garbage Collection is postponed and will be scheduled at a later date.  Residents are asked to not place any heavy garbage out to the curb for collection. If a household has already placed items to the curb, please remove them until a date is announced.
