Detour around George and Townsend Street intersection on Monday

SYDNEY, NS - A busy downtown intersection will have traffic detoured on Monday, July 24.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m., George Street (from Brookland to Falmouth Street) and Townsend Street (from Bentinck to Douglas Street) in Sydney will be closed to through traffic as work continues on watermain upgrades. Detour signage and traffic personnel will be in place for the duration of the closure.

 

Businesses along the affected route will remain open and all efforts will be made to provide customer access.

The closure is expected to remain for the entire day. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes if possible and use caution when traveling through the detoured area. Traffic volumes will be high at peak times.

The CBRM Water Utility appreciates your patience and co-operation.

Transit routes will also be a adjusted for this detour as follows:

Route 8:

Outgoing – Route will proceed down Charlotte St. to Byng, across George St. to Glenwood to Hugh to Townsend Street where it will resume the regular run.

Incoming – Route will proceed in reverse from Townsend to Hugh to Glenwood to Byng where it will take a right to Bentinck to Wentworth and finally a left on George where it will resume regular run.

Route 11:

Outgoing – Route will proceed down Charlotte St to Byng, across George St. to Glenwood right to Brookland St. where it will resume the regular run.

Incoming – Route will proceed from Brookland to Glenwood to Byng through to Bentinck to Wentworth to George where it will resume the regular run.

Route 13:

Outgoing – Route will proceed down Charlotte, continue to Byng to George St where it will resume the regular run.

Incoming – Route will proceed from George St to Byng through to Bentick and on to Wentworth Street and finally to George where it will resume the regular run.
