Municipal notices for Friday, September 30 and the weekend of October 1-2.

Municipal Notices: The following is an update on municipal services for Friday, September 30 and the weekend of October 1-2.

The municipality continues to operate in Local State of Emergency until Saturday.

Solid Waste curbside collection has resumed service and will operate on Friday, September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  Solid Waste Drop off sites will also be open on Friday and Saturday.

Plans for a yard waste pick up program will be announced on Friday. Stacked yard debris will be picked up curbside for residents who register their address with 311.

Transit is not operating on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but all routes are expected to resume on Monday with some detours in place.

TRANSIT NOTICE: Regular Transit Cape Breton service is cancelled for Saturday, October 1. Service resumes on Monday with some detours in place. Handi-Trans is providing service to clients for essential medical appointments that could not be rescheduled.  

SOLID WASTE: Curbside Collection will take place as regularly scheduled. Service will also take place on Friday, September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Collectors will assess streets as they arrive in the area to determine if they can safely travel on them to retrieve curbside materials. If roads are impassable, material will be left uncollected. If your materials are left uncollected, please remove your materials from the curb. Extra garbage bags and green cart material will be collected on your area’s next regularly scheduled collection day. Blue bags will be collected on your area's next regularly scheduled blue bag collection week. 

DEBRIS: The solid waste site on SPAR Road is open on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Construction debris from the storm can be brought to the SPAR Road location. 

Also, the Northside Public Drop-Off Site located off King Street in North Sydney is open on Saturday, October 1, from 8am to 2:45 pm. Regular household garbage can be brought to this site on Saturday only. 

In addition to the SPAR Road location, residential yard waste such as tree trunks, branches, etc. can also be brought to leaf and yard waste sites in North Sydney, Glace Bay and New Waterford. They will also be open on Friday and Saturday from 9:00am - 3:00pm. 

NORTH SYDNEY drop-off site located Ferris Street (off King Street) in North Sydney.
GLACE BAY drop off site is Public Works yard located on West Avenue in Glace Bay.
NEW WATERFORD drop off site is Public Works yard located on Ling Street in New Waterford. 

FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES: Burning of debris is not permitted. (CBRM by-law) This is a busy time for first responders. Unnecessary calls for unneeded fires are not in the best interest of public safety. 

EMO: Preliminary list of Comfort Centres open on Friday and through the weekend.  Subject to change if power is restored in their location. Updates will be noted on CBRM Facebook page and website.

Glace Bay Miners Forum: Open 10am to 5pm
Howie Center VFD: Open 10am to 7pm
Louisbourg VFD: Open 9am to 6pm
New Waterford VFD: Open 10 am to 4 pm
Sydney Cruise Pavilion: Open 10 am to 5pm
