New transit hub location in downtown Sydney, change to Mall shelter location

SYDNEY, NS - Effective Monday, July 4, the Transit Cape Breton transfer hub currently located at Dorchester Street in Sydney will be relocated to Pitt Street and George Street. A new shelter and bus top location will also be in use at the Mayflower Mall. 

On Pitt Street, Route 5, Route 8, Router 10/13,  Route 11 and Route 12 will line up.

On George Street will be the CBU Express, Route 1 and Route 9. 

Impacts to Routes leaving and returning to the New Hub: 

Route 1:          Route 1 will leave George Street, turn onto Pitt Street, then turn onto Charlotte Street and follow the Route as always (See also below changes to Mayflower Mall).  On the return trip to the hub, Route 1 will follow the same route via Prince/Dodd/Dorchester but turn onto George and return to the new hub area. 

Route 5:          Route 5 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street, then follow the route as always.  On the return trip, Route 5 will use the Esplanade to York Street, to George Street and return to the new hub area. 

Route 8:          Route 8 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street, then follow the route as always. On the return trip, Route 8 will use George Street and turn onto Pitt Street to the new hub area.

Route 9:          Route 9 will leave George Street, turn onto Pitt Street, then continue on Pitt Street to the Esplanade. It will turn right onto Esplanade to York Street and continue along its same route.  On the return trip, Route 9 will use SPAR Road, to Ferry Street, turn left onto George Street, and return to the new hub area. 

Route 10:        Route 10 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street, then follow the same route as always. On the return trip, Route 10 will use Esplanade to York Street, to George Street and turn back onto Pitt Street to the new hub area. 

Route 11:        Route 11 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street, then follow the same route as always.  On the return trip, Route 11 will use George Street and turn left onto Pitt Street to the new hub area. 

Route 12:        Route 12 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street, then follow the same route as always.  On the return trip, Route 12 will use the Esplanade, to Yorke Street, to George Street, and back to Pitt Street to the new hub area. 

Route 13:        Route 13 will leave Pitt Street, turn onto Charlotte Street and follow the same route as always.  On the return trip, Route 13 will use George Street and turn left onto Pitt Street to the new hub area. 

CBU Express:   CBU Express will leave George Street, turn onto Pitt Street, then onto Charlotte Street and follow the same route as always (Please see changes below to Mayflower Mall)  

CHANGES TO MAYFLOWER MALL 

Effective July 4, 2022, Transit Cape Breton will start using the new bus stop and shelter located at the Mayflower Mall.  All buses, regardless of the direction of travel (ie: from Glace Bay or Sydney) will enter the mall using the Best Buy entrance, turn left and head toward the shelter area, and exit the mall using the entrance/exit adjacent to the Bay Store.
