Special Election
There will be Special Elections on Saturday, December 6, 2014 to fill one vacancy on the CBRM Council and one vacancy on the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, both representatives for District 10 of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM).
Description of District 10:
District 10 includes:
• the communities of Gardiner Mines and Dominion;
• that part of the community of Reserve Mines north of Haulage Road and north of 195 Main Street, including Centerville Street, Official Row, Atlantic Drive, Holland Street, Poland Street, Nicholson Drive, Belgium Street, Cross Street, and Neville Street;
• the Bridgeport, Number 2/Hub, and Sterling neighbourhoods of the community of Glace Bay;
• the sector of Phalen Road from its intersection with Beechwood Drive (beginning with 286 Phalen Road) north to its intersection with Main Street;
• all of Beechwood Drive and Beechwood Court;
• Deanna Drive and O'Neil's Lane; and
• the sector of Main Street with the address ranges 974 up to and including 1130 and 955 up to and including 1115;
• all of the Central Area neighbourhood of Glace Bay with the exception of the part south of the center line of Main Street; and
• that part of the Downtown area neighbourhood north of the center line of Main Street.

CANDIDATE INFORMATION:
To be a candidate in the Special Elections for Councillor and School Board Member in District 10 of CBRM, you must be:
• A Canadian Citizen;
• 18 years of age or older at the time of nomination;
• Be ordinarily resident in CBRM for at least 6 months prior to nomination day (i.e. May 10, 2014);
• Not otherwise disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act or Education Act of Nova Scotia.

Candidate Contributions
• All contributions of $50 or over to a candidate's campaign must be reported on the form provided in the Candidate package;
• Following the Election, contribution forms will be available for examination by the public;
• Contributions made to Municipal or School Board candidates are not tax deductible – no tax receipts are issued;
• No anonymous contributions are allowed.
Statement of Campaign Contributions for Municipal and School Board Elections:
These reports are made available pursuant to the NS Municipal Elections Act (the Act). Section 49A (8) of the Act states:
"Within sixty days after regular polling day in an election, every candidate and agent of an association shall file with the Clerk of a municipality or the secretary of a school board a disclosure statement showing the full name and residential or business address, other than a post office box unless that is the only address available, of each contributor whose contributions received during the period since the previous election exceeds fifty dollars in total and the amount of the total contribution of the contributor."
Under the Rights to Examine Statements – Section 49B (1): Any person may examine a disclosure statement respecting contributions to a candidate.

List of Electors
The Final List of Electors has been prepared for the upcoming Special Elections. It is based on the most recent Provincial Voters' List, as amended during the recent revision period.
Voters can confirm their names online using the Electronic Voter Lookup tool that will ask for your first name and last name and date of birth.

If you do not know if you live in District 10, click here to check your District number and Councillor. You will be asked for your civic address.
If your name is on the Voters' List, you will receive a Voter Information Letter (VIL) in the mail by November 25th. If you do not receive your VIL by November 25th and you meet the voter qualifications (see below), please contact the Returning Office to make arrangements to have your name added to the list.
You can also have your name added to the Voters' List at the polls on Election Day. To do so you will be required to bring ID that indicates your name and address and make a declaration that you are eligible to vote.
Election Day:
Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Polling Stations for Polling Division 10A will be voting at Oceanview Education Centre and Polling Divisions 10B & C will be at the Dominion Fire Hall. Mobile Polling Stations will also be available at Victoria Haven and Taigh Na Mara Nursing Homes at specified times to be determined by the Returning Office.
Advance Poll Voting by Internet and Telephone Only has ended. It was held from 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25th to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 pursuant to the CBRM Alternative Voting By-Law.
Eligible voters will be voting for:
• One Councillor to represent District 10 of CBRM
• One School Board Member
Qualifications to Vote:
You qualify to vote in the Special Elections in District 10 if:
• You are at least 18 years old on Election Day (December 6, 2014);
• You are a Canadian Citizen; and
• You have been resident in CBRM for a period of three months immediately preceding Election Day (i.e. since September 6, 2014) and continue to reside, and are residing in District 10 on Election Day;
• You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the Special Elections.
