SYDNEY, NS - SYDNEY, NS - The public meeting on the Mayor's Task Force recommendations will be held in the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre in Sydney.
Use of the upgraded chamber requires a date change however, so the meeting will now be held on Tuesday, October 1 at 1:30 pm. It was originally scheduled for September 17.
The change of date is not due to any delay in the work currently underway, but to take advantage of the new technology to allow better public participation in the decision-making process.
The Mayor's task force, chaired by Dr. Keith Brown of CBU, presented a blueprint for change across a broad spectrum of the organization and operation of Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
The report is available on CBRM's website at www.cbrm.ns.ca. Residents may also call the Clerk's Office at 902-563-5010 to order a paper copy via mail or pick up a copy at one of CBRM's Citizen Service Centres.
"This report from the task force is a page-turner and a great starting point as we move forward with positive change," said Mayor Cecil Clarke. "I look forward to meeting with citizens and hearing their thoughts on the recommendations and their expectations of their municipal government."
During the July 4 presentation of the report, Dr. Brown characterized the chance for organizational change "as a once-in-a-generation opportunity".
Members of the public unable to attend the meeting are encouraged to submit their opinion directly through the CBRM's website and are also welcome to write to the Mayor's Office.
Online and written submissions must be received by September 25. Citizens attending the October 1 meeting will be limited by the time constraints of the meeting, approximately 5-10 minutes each, and so are encouraged to also present a written submission.
