Internal and External Committees of Council
As part of Council’s ongoing commitment to effective governance and community representation, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) has several Committees of Council to help inform decision making. Also, the CBRM appoints Councillors to be representatives on external committees that have a direct link to Council priorities that impact CBRM residents.

Audit
The Audit Committee assists Council in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities relating to finance and audit matters delegated to management by Council. In particular, the Committee assists Council by reviewing:
- Key financial information that will be provided to the province or made public
- External and/or internal audit activities
- The system of internal controls, risk management and financial information technology
- Cash and investment management activities
- Insurance coverage and significant risks and uncertainties
- Financial Condition Indicators

Accessibility Advisory
The CBRM Accessibility Advisory Committee provides advice on identifying, preventing, and eliminating barriers to people with disabilities in programs, services, initiatives, facilities and policies for the purpose of improving the municipality’s livability, inclusiveness, and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The committee plays a pivotal role in helping CBRM meet its obligations under Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Act.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Heritage Advisory

Regional Enterprise Network (REN) Liaison
The Cape Breton Partnership is the Economic Development arm of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality through the CBRM Regional Enterprise Network (CBRM REN). The Cape Breton Partnership employs the Economic Development Officers who provide services in the CBRM and support new and established businesses by connecting them to resources, programs, and information to make it easier to start or grow their business in CBRM. The Cape Breton Partnership, through the CBRM REN, also seeks to work collaboratively with partners to improve the investment climate for new investors and attract new firms and projects that can benefit the economy and communities of the CBRM.

Nova Scotia Solid Waste Resource Management Regional Chairs
The Nova Scotia Solid Waste Resource Management Regional Chairs committee provides an ongoing forum for the discussion of solid waste resource management in Nova Scotia. Each Regional Chair will liaise, report to and represent their Regional Committee/Authority.

Cape Breton Regional Library Board
The Cape Breton Regional Library Board provides quality collections, cultural resources, programs and services in a welcoming environment where all can enjoy reading and learning. The Cape Breton Regional Library has a Board of Directors who govern the library in accordance with the Nova Scotia Libraries Act, which regulates regional library services in the province.

Port of Sydney Development Corporation (PSDC)
The PSDC supports, promotes, and develops the harbour and related infrastructure with a view of growing the economy of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
