Vet Street in Glace Bay closed to traffic on Thursday  

On Thursday, May 31, from 9am until approximately 3pm, CBRM Public Works will be replacing a sewer lateral on Vet Street in Glace Bay.

Vet Street will be closed to vehicular traffic temporarily as the line is replaced to renew services. Residents are asked to make alternative arrangements on Thursday.

Statistics Canada to survey Cape Breton Regional Municipality residents on local transportation, land use, infrastructure, use of public services   

Ottawa, May 11, 2018 − Statistics Canada will be conducting telephone surveys on behalf of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality from May 28 to June 1, 2018.

Statistics Canada interviewers will contact approximately 1,800 randomly selected households by telephone in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.   

The purpose of the survey is to help the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s Planning and Development Department to better understand the needs and priorities of the residents regarding transportation, land use, library services, and commercial revitalization. This information will be used to promote and support long range policy initiatives that focus on economic and social development.

The survey is conducted under the authority of the Statistics Act, which ensures the confidentiality of all information collected. No individual responses or identifiable information will be shared with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.  While participation in the survey is voluntary, it is important that all selected participants take part to ensure the information accurately reflects the views of residents in the community.  

Interviewers will identify themselves as being employees of Statistics Canada upon calling.

Public Input Requested on a Proposed Roundabout on Grand Lake Road  

The Council of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) is seeking the public’s input on a proposed amendment to the Municipal Planning Strategy and the Land Use By-law which would permit the relocation of Kent Building Supplies to a site fronting on the south side of Grand Lake Road just west of the City Motorsports/Polaris site at 914 Grand Lake Road. 

In addition to having to amend the zoning to permit a Kent Building Supplies, the Municipal Planning Strategy needs to be amended to permit this business development to be accessed via a roundabout located on Grand Lake Road. The CBRM is requesting the public’s input on this proposed change in policy via an online survey.
