The following are notices of planned closure of unused portions of Kings Road and Esplanade in Sydney. The "closure" of this portion of the roadway does not lead to any disruption of traffic.

The areas affected are indicated on the maps shown as outlined in black with lines.

UARB Public Hearing

NOVA SCOTIA UTILITY AND REVIEW BOARD NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING  

JOHN AND THERESA MACNEIL have made an appeal to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board from a decision of Council for Cape Breton Regional Municipality to refuse an amendment to the Land Use By-Law for property identified as PID 15225733, Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

This matter will be considered in a public hearing as follows:

Municipal offices, transit services closed in afternoon

February 8, 2021

Cape Breton Regional Municipality offices will remain closed on Monday, February 8, due to the ongoing winter storm.

Transit Cape Breton services are also cancelled throughout the afternoon and will be reassessed in the late afternoon to determine if the service will resume in the evening.

February 7, 2021 

SYDNEY, NS – Cape Breton Regional Municipality offices will be closed on Monday morning due to the forecast of severe weather.

The situation will be reassessed Monday morning to determine if offices will reopen in the afternoon.

Buses are now finishing their current run and coming off the roads.
The roads/weather situation will be reassessed as the evening progresses.

Deadline approaching for citizen committee roles

January 19, 2021

SYDNEY, NS - The Council of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality requires the services of citizens willing to serve as volunteer members on Committees of Council or exterior Committees to which CBRM appoints citizens. 

Currently there are vacancies on the following committees:

Board of Police Commissioners

Three positions for a two-year term – with one from Central, North and East Divisions of CBRM. Successful applicants must consent to a criminal record background check as per Section 77 (2) of the NS Police Act Regulations.

Audit Committee 

One position for a two-year term.

Transit Notice - January 13, 2021

TRANSIT NOTICE: Route 13 - George Street - 9:00 am bus is delayed.

Crawford Crossing now open to traffic

Crawford Crossing now open to traffic 

SYDNEY, NS – Crawford Crossing is now open to traffic. The final work on traffic signals was completed today and vehicles are now permitted to use the road. 

Crawford Crossing connects the intersection of Lingan Road and Sydney Port Access Road to Victoria Road through the site of the former Sydney steel plant’s coke ovens. The road was designed and built in 2013 as part of a large-scale remediation project. 

“The Cape Breton Regional Municipality worked closely with Nova Scotia Lands, representatives of the two railroad owners, federal and provincial officials to safely open the route,” said Ray Boudreau, Senior Manager at CBRM’s Public Works.
