Elections in the municipality
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality does not coordinate, sponsor, endorse or otherwise engage in any campaign-related events (e.g. forums, debates, public meetings, etc.).
Any events held during the election period are organized independently by third parties and are not affiliated with the municipality. The municipality’s role is limited to administering the electoral process in accordance with applicable legislation and by-laws. For any questions or concerns regarding specific campaign events, please contact the event organizers directly.
The Election Office, a divions of the Office of the Municipal Clerk, oversees the general and special municipal elections in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
Municipal elections are an incredibly important part of local governance and affect the day-to-day lives of over 100,000 residents throughout the municipality. From waste collection to public safety to transit and beyond - municipal government helps shape how residents and visitors live, work, play and invest in the municipality.
General elections take place every four years. Qualified residents will vote for
- Mayor
- Councillor (in their district)
- Conseil scolaire acadien provincial member (if eligible)
