Construction Advisory: Prince Street, Sydney

Tuesday, June 4th:

Construction activities will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4, for the crosswalk installation at the intersection of Reeves Street and Prince Street in Sydney.

Traffic control will be in place with a reduction to two lanes in this section. The public should expect delays and use an alternate route if possible.

Victoria Day - No Transit or Hani Trans

A reminder that there will be no bus service for Transit Cape Breton and Handi Trans on Monday, May 20th, 2019 because of the Victoria day holiday.

Buses will resume to their regular schedule on Tuesday, May 21st.

Installation work on traffic lights starting this Thursday at the Prince and Inglis Street intersection  

Starting this Thursday, May 16, installation of the overhead arms and configuration activities for new traffic lights will be taking place at the Prince and Inglis intersection in Sydney.

The work is expected to continue for several weeks. Traffic control will be in place periodically throughout this time frame and the public should expect delays in this area.

Section of George Street closed to local traffic this weekend due to start of water main replacement project 

CBRM Water Utility advises that a project to replace a water main on George Street is commencing this Saturday, May 4th. The Project is expected to continue for 5 weeks. 

On Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th, 2019, there will be a total road closure on George Street between Byng Avenue and Glenwood Street, the detour will be between Argyle Street and Brookland Street, with access to local traffic only. 

Traffic control personal will be on site. Traffic will resume on Monday, May 6th, 2019 along detour routes for the remainder of the project. More information will follow as the project progresses. 

Customers can expect intermittent interruptions to municipal services. CBRM will provide 24 hours notice to customers prior to any planned shutdown of water services.

Call for artists for Reconciliation Mural in Downtown Sydney 

The Downtown Sydney and the Downtown Regeneration Committee are currently seeking proposals from Artists for a Reconciliation Mural in Downtown Sydney.

They are seeking two artists to collaboratively work on this mural as a team – including one Mi’kmaw artist as well as an artist from another cultural background.

 Deadline for proposals is: Friday May 24, 2019, 5:00PM AST 

The mural will be located outside of the Undercurrent Youth Centre in Sydney.  The Jury will be looking carefully for complimentary and contrasting points of view that express your cultural understanding of reconciliation, and Two-Eyed-Seeing. Authenticity, vibrancy, strength, and resilience are key words.

Provincial Program: Beautification and Streetscape

ATTENTION COMMUNITY GROUPS:

There is a provincial funding program available for community groups providing 50% project funding for beautification and streetscaping programs.Your group must have the other 50% contribution (min $10k; max $25K). The CBRM will apply to the province on your behalf.

The deadline of Tuesday, April 30 is quickly approaching, please get in touch ASAP if your group would like to apply through the CBRM.

Good Friday, April 19: No service
Saturday, April 20: Regular Schedule
Easter Sunday, April 21: No service
Easter Monday, April 22: No service
