JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY

For over three decades, Joel Plaskett has proven himself a spinning wheel of reinvention. The Nova Scotia songwriter’s eclectic body of work reveals a restless and playful spirit, always transforming and expanding.

While continuing to celebrate — and be celebrated for — his regional ties and embrace of East Coast musical traditions, Joel’s omnivorous appetite for new sonic horizons is an integral part of his work. His work with the Emergency, beginning with their debut Down at the Khyber (2001), set in motion a storied career catalogued across a dozen albums and countless awards and nominations from the Junos, the Polaris Prize, East Coast Music Awards, and Music Nova Scotia.

THE JAYNES

The Jaynes write the catchiest songs you’ve never heard… unless you’ve had the chance to catch one of their infrequent live performances over the past 15 years.

Led by songwriter Shane O’Handley, perhaps Cape Breton’s most prolific musician who’s performed as part of the Tom Fun Orchestra, Carmen Townsend Band, and Mhira Blood amongst many others, the band evokes nostalgia for the best of the 90s Halifax indie scene while blossoming into something entirely fresh and timeless. The resulting songs present an earnest voice amongst melodic guitars and driving rhythms that transcend expectations.
