The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), in partnership with the Multicultural Association of Cape Breton, is proud to host its annual Canadian Multiculturalism Day celebration on June 27 from 5–9 p.m. at the Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre. This vibrant community event highlights the rich cultural diversity of the region through food, music, art, and interactive experiences.
This year’s celebration features an international food festival showcasing dishes from eight local restaurants: Super Bun, Taste of Ukraine, Viet Yummy, Samar’s Kitchen, Omma’s Korean BBQ and Grill, Pam’s Kitchen, Isla Kusina, and Nanaxhi Traditional Tastes. Tickets are $5.00 each and can be redeemed for one serving from any participating restaurant. Guests are welcome to purchase and redeem multiple tickets to enjoy a variety of cuisines.
Attendees will experience cultural performances representing China, Vietnam, India, and Africa, along with hands-on cultural fair activities such as henna art, Chinese rubbing bookmark making, and traditional Chinese windmill crafting.
The evening will also include special musical performances from Cape Breton group WAM-PUM, Bia Ferreira, and more!
WAM-PUM impresses with its musicality and energetic live performances, including original music, a range of covers and extended jams. The band’s wide musical influences are evident in its performances, from gritty Chicago blues to the smooth, funky vibes of Motown. WAM-PUM brings a fresh, genre-bending yet familiar-sounding act that fans won’t forget.
The show will be headlined by Brazilian singer and composer, Bia Ferreira. Bia’s music blends elements of soul, blues, reggae, funk, R&B, rap, and references to Brazilian music, dialoguing with Afro-diasporic traditions and languages.
“Multiculturalism Day is one of the most joyful celebrations we host each year. It reflects who are as a community; welcoming, diverse, and proud of the many cultures that call Cape Breton home,” said Mayor Cecil Clarke. “This event brings people together in a way that strengthens our connections and remind us of the beauty of our shared community.”
The annual celebration invites residents and visitors of all backgrounds to come together, share their heritage, and experience the cultural richness that defines Cape Breton.
