Smoke Alarm Installation Program

A working smoke alarm can give you and your family the warning you need to get out safely during a fire.

CBRM Fire and Emergency Services provides and installs smoke alarms free of charge for eligible homeowners who need an alarm but cannot afford one. During the visit, firefighters will also provide fire safety information and answer questions about fire safety in the home.

Applications will be accepted from October 1-31, 2026, or while supplies last.

Who Can Apply

You may be eligible if you:

  • own your home in CBRM;
  • need a smoke alarm; and
  • cannot afford to purchase one.

To help the program reach as many residents as possible, one smoke alarm is provided per floor with bedrooms. For example:

  • If you have two bedrooms on the same floor, you will receive one smoke alarm.
  • If your bedrooms are on two different floors, you will receive two smoke alarms.

If you rent your home and do not have a working smoke alarm, contact your landlord or property manager. You can also complete the request form. Landlord information is required.

How to Apply

To apply, complete the form below or open the form in a separate window. If you need assistance in filling out the form, call 311.

The fire prevention officers will contact you if you are eligible for the program.
