beaker strawThe CBRM Water Utility operates 7 water treatment plants, 5 pumping stations and 10 water storage tanks. Treatment processes include pumping, filtering, treatment, clarification for colour, organics, iron, manganese, turbidity and other elements. The Utility treats approximately 8,732,000 gallons of water per day.

CBRM tap water is tested over 12,000 times a year.

That's right, each year more than 12,000 individual recorded tests are completed to ensure the safety of CBRM'S tap water. The Cape Breton Regional Municipality meets and exceeds national safety standards for drinking water. Do the math! That's 1,000 tests a month. 250 tests a week, over 32 tests a day.
