April 6, 2021 

CBRM NOTICE: Council budget meetings originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 7 are rescheduled for April 27-29. 

TRANSIT CAPE BRETON NOTICE: The bus stop on the CBU campus located at the Canada Games Complex is now moved to the front of the Great Hall due the vaccination clinics. The bus stop will be at that location until further notice. 

Transit Route 8 detour on March 23

March 23, 2021

Transit Cape Breton Route 8 is not travelling along Gatacre Street today due to road work.  It is detouring along French Street.

Storm cancellations and closures - March 19, 2021

City Hall building is closed for the day.

Solid Waste Curbside collection is cancelled today.

Transit is ending operatons with all buses returning to depot by noon.  Evening services are also cancelled.

CBRM seeking citizen volunteers for committees

March 17, 2021

The Council of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality requires the services of citizens who would be willing to serve as volunteer members on three committees.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee requires up to 8 members for a two-year term in accordance with the Accessibility Act of Nova Scotia.

The Diversity Committee is seeking one representative from the Gay, Lesbian & Transgendered Community, one representative from Cape Breton University and one representative from the Cape Breton-Victoria Centre for Education.

The Cape Breton Island Housing Authority requires three positions for a three-year term.

Application deadline extended to June 30

March 12, 2021

The application deadline for CBRM's Municipal Grants Program is extended to June 30 for both the Festival and Events category and the Capital, Operating and Tax Relief category.

Application forms are available on the CBRM website under “Forms” https://www.cbrm.ns.ca/forms.html

There are two funding options under the Festival and Events Category and more details are included on the application form.

Handi-Trans support for vaccination clinic appointments

March 10, 2021

SYDNEY, NS -  Transit Cape Breton’s Handi-Trans service is available as free transportation for those aged 80 and over requiring a ride to their COVID-19 vaccination clinic appointment at CBU Canada Games Clinic.

The first clinics are being held on March 15, 19 and 23.

Those 80 and older, who were born in the months of January, February, March and April, can now book an appointment for the clinics at the CBU Canada Games Complex. Each clinic has a set number of appointments available for the clinic dates.

Appointments can be booked by calling toll-free 1-833-797-7772 or online at www.novascotia.ca/vaccination

Once an individual has an appointment time, they can contact Handi-Trans to arrange transportation at 902-539-4336.
Residents must live in the Handi-Trans service area to use this service.

Notice of closure - portions of Kings Road and Esplanade

The following are notices of planned closure of unused portions of Kings Road and Esplanade in Sydney. The "closure" of this portion of the roadway does not lead to any disruption of traffic.

The areas affected are indicated on the maps shown as outlined in black with lines.

UARB Public Hearing

NOVA SCOTIA UTILITY AND REVIEW BOARD NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING  

JOHN AND THERESA MACNEIL have made an appeal to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board from a decision of Council for Cape Breton Regional Municipality to refuse an amendment to the Land Use By-Law for property identified as PID 15225733, Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

CBRM PLANNING STRATEGY AMENDMENT SURVEY

CBRM Council has received a request to permit a medical clinic in a residential neighbourhood. Even though this request is related to a specific property, Council’s decision could impact all urban and suburban residential neighbourhoods throughout the CBRM.

The zoning found in residential neighbourhoods does not permit medical clinics.
CBRM Council has been asked to consider an amendment to municipal plan policy to permit medical clinics in all urban and suburban residential neighbourhoods.

The purpose of this survey is to gather input to assist Council in making their decision. The survey will be open until March 1st, 2021.
