August 6, 2026, 2:53 p.m. – The Cape Breton Regional Municipality advises that the boil water advisory for Louisbourg has been cancelled. Water sampling has confirmed that the water is safe for consumption and regular use.
Residents no longer need to boil their water before drinking, preparing infant formula, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, or brushing teeth.
Repairs have been completed and water quality testing has verified that the system meets all safety requirements.
August 5, 2026, 9:59 a.m. – Due to a major water main break, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality has issued a boil water advisory for Louisbourg. The advisory only affects water utility customers in the town of Louisbourg.
Water customers in this area are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute before drinking, preparing infant formula, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, brushing teeth, or any other activity that results in human consumption.
Some residents may experience low or no water pressure while crews work to repair the water main.
The advisory does not apply to residents on private wells in the affected areas.
