2026 CBRM Canada Day Celebration at Open Hearth Park

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is pleased to announce its annual Canada Day celebration, taking place July 1 at Open Hearth Park in Sydney. This year’s celebration will offer a full evening of family-friendly activities, live entertainment, local food vendors, and a fireworks finale.

Festivities run from 4:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., featuring an Action Zone with games and attractions including a mini-Ferris wheel and arcade-style activities suitable for all ages.

Live entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. on the Songwriters Picnic Stage, with performances by Shawnee Paul & Marybeth Carty, a Songwriters Circle featuring Breagh Isabel, Colleen Power & Tom Fidgen, and a special appearance by acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith.

The Main Stage lineup begins at 8:00 p.m., showcasing performances by Gordie Sampson and Lookout Tower, leading into the evening’s headliner: Tenille Townes, two-time JUNO Award–winning Canadian country artist. The celebration will conclude with fireworks over Open Hearth Park at 10:15 p.m.

Accessible parking will be available adjacent to the park, with event security on-site to assist attendees.

“Canada Day in CBRM is always a moment where our community comes together in the spirit of celebration, connection, and pride,” says Mayor Cecil Clarke. “It’s a perfect action filled day for families, neighbours, and visitors to enjoy great music, great food, and the great sense of community that defines Cape Breton.”
